The teachers of the department provide teaching of a professionally oriented foreign language for future physicists, mathematicians, IT and ICT specialists, biologists, ecologists, chemists, agronomists, historians, philosophers, economists, lawyers, specialists in the tourism industry and hotel and restaurant business, pedagogues, psychologists, physical education teachers, trainers, rehabilitators.
The Department of Foreign Languages was created in 1953, and its first head was V. I. Perebyinis. The department was managed by I. P. Krytska, the Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor, for more than twenty years. S. V. Tsiura, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor, led the team for 15 years.
The work of the department’s teachers is aimed at training specialists whose knowledge and skills will enable them to compete successfully not only in Ukraine, but also abroad. Modern society has an urgent need for specialists fluent in a professional and colloquial foreign language.
Teaching a professional-oriented foreign language encourages teachers to constantly acquire new knowledge, develop professionally and improve their qualifications. The teaching staff of the department develops and publishes textbooks for students, takes an active part in scientific conferences in Ukraine and abroad, organizes methodical seminars involving foreign specialists.
Every year, the All-Ukrainian Student Conference “Foreign Language and Career” is held, as well as the English Language Olympiad, popularizing a foreign language as an integral component of professional success. Under the guidance of teachers, students participate in the All-Ukrainian competition of student research papers in a foreign language.
The department closely cooperates with foreign colleagues, who conduct master classes for teachers, discussing the peculiarities of teaching professional-oriented foreign language.
